I want to program a key on a 2005 pt cruiser and it asked for a pin. How do I get this code?

Dealer is your only option if your not a locksmith
D-Max, SSB, MVP or TCode Pro can retrieve PINs

I called the dealer and they don't want to give me a code. Something about a limited number of codes issued.

Of course they won't just randomly give out security codes, anything that has to do with Immobilizer/vehicle security requires proof that the vehicle you have in your possession is in fact yours.

Go up there personally with the following
Print out a copy of the title/insurance card with the vin#
Print a copy of the owners drivers license
Get something in writing stating that the owner or you approve the request of pin code
Extra- an invoice with shop info - diagnosis etc.

Yeah it's a pain but you can try this otherwise your SOL

     Thanks for your help.

Which other makes require a pin or something similar? I know older hondas don't. Not sure about the new ones.

         The ones I've dealt with

Newer Hondas/Acura - You can add a key with the Maxisys
All keys lost function requires a "Generated Pin Code" but this function is only available with the Honda Software, the Immobilizer module is only accessed with a Locksmith License.

Toyotas/Lexus - You can add a key with the Maxi
All keys lost function can be done but requires a seed key conversion, I've only done this with Techstream. The Immobilizer will generate a 20 - digit seed key, you will then need to convert it to a 5-6 digit PIN number along with a 16 minute wait. I use vinlocks.com for the the seed key conversion.
Putting a used PCM you can do the obd wire jump to "resync" the immo.....turn the key off, place a small wire from pin 4 to pin 13 on the obd port, turn the key on....wait 30 mins (all lights on cluster will flash), after 30 mins turn key off, remove jumper and it should start.

Nissan/Infinit - I use my old 708....only up to 2012....2013 and newer the security system changes and requires the Consult 3
You can add keys through the NATS feature, steering/pin lock will sometimes require a conversion, I use bcm.keytechtools.com

GM- 30 min key learn manual way to program a new key or online subscription 10 min

Ford - add key parameter reset, pcm replacement requires 2 keys
    Mazda - in/out codes I use autokeyprog.com

    Hyundai/Kia - you add a key with maxi - code saving/transfer
All keys lost requires a pin from dealer

     2008 Ford Escape.

I try to add key but errors out because of DTC. Clear the code and still errors. It wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't that I have to wait 10+ minutes after each time ...

According to you list I have to use parameter reset instead of add key function. That makes me nervous because parameter reset erases working key and I'm not sure if the ilco h92-pt with SA stamp will work.
